Swimmers will be spaced out in the lap lanes and must be confident swimming alone in deep water as the instructor will be teaching from the deck while swimmers are in the water learning strokes. Children who are not strong enough swimmers will be removed from this class. To advance to the next level, swimmers must jump into deep water with recovery, swim front and back crawl for 15 yards, elementary backstroke, dolphin kick and be able to do a squat dive.Spring/Summer 2026 -

Lifeguard Training ClassCertification / Employment TrainingThis course will certify participants in American Red Cross Lifeguarding for employment. Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. To participate, students must be at least 15 years of age by the last class (proof of age required) and pass the prerequisite swim tests given on the first day (200 yard swim, treading water, & retrieval of brick). Attendance at every class is required as is access to a computer for course work outside of class. Students should bring: pen, paper, swimsuit, goggles, towel, CPR Rescue Mask, and contact case if needed. No refunds after successfully completing the pre-test. Failure of swim test on prerequisite orientation will result in a refund minus $25 fee for pre-test. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years. A minimum of 5 participants are required to run a lifeguard training class. Prerequisites: Minimum age: 15 years Complete a swim- tread-swim sequence: Jump into the water submerge resurface swim 150 yards (using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both) maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs then swim 50 yards using the front crawl breaststroke or a combination of both. Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds by starting in the water swimming 20 yards surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 12 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point holding the object at the surface with both hand exit the water without using a ladder or steps.Spring/Summer 2026 -
