Discover a soothing way to explore oil paints! In this trial workshop, you’ll use scrapers, rags, and solvents to gently lift layers of paint and reveal a hidden monochromatic painting underneath. This playful, stress-free approach flips traditional oil painting on its head, making it perfect for anyone who wants to unwind while experimenting with the medium. Open to all skill levels. All supplies provided.

In this invigorating course, beginner students learn basic wheel-throwing and handbuilding ceramic techniques used to create basic pottery forms such as mugs, bowls, and dishes. NEW Open Studio Mondays are now available for currently enrolled students. Join us for an open studio and get independent time to work on projects, experiment with glaze combinations, and decorate! No outside glazes or clay permitted; please use this time to continue working on your current OAC class projects. Clay disbursements are not provided at this time. A Studio Tech will be present if you have questions! The Open Studio is designed as a pay-as-you-go or purchase multiple sessions ahead in increments of $25 Residents/$29 Nonresidents. No open studio on May 25.

Every image tells a story! In this 4-week welcoming, hands-on illustration class, students will learn how to turn drawings into meaningful visual narratives while developing their own creative voice. Through guided prompts, demonstrations, and discussion, we'll explore how artists use composition, texture, and character to express emotion and imagination. Young artists will join their Orange Art Center teacher after school to participate in art projects that focus on creative techniques including painting, collage, illustration, and craft. Students will develop independent art-making choices while enjoying group and individual instruction and encouragement. Being an artist is an excellent way to end the day! All supplies included. Grades K–2 meet Mondays and Tuesdays; Grades 3–5 meet Wednesdays (Art Explorers) and Thursdays (Art Explorers – Ceramics). Resident students will be conveniently chaperoned and shuttled from Moreland Hills Elementary to the Art Center.

Bring your own ideas to life in this open studio format class. Work in the medium of your choice: oil, watercolor, acrylic, oil pastel, chalk pastel, collage, drawing, or mixed media. Receive individualized instruction, technique demonstrations, and feedback tailored to your goals. Explore methods, develop your personal style, and create at your own pace. This relaxed, supportive studio environment is ideal for artists who enjoy working independently with professional guidance. Intermediate and advanced students are welcome. Students supply their own materials. Please note: Turpentine and traditional paint thinners are not permitted in OAC studios. Odorless paint thinner is required for oil painting.

New at the OAC: Art Explorers: Ceramics is now available as a Thursday option for Grades 3–5. Young artists will explore clay through handbuilding, surface design, and glazing techniques to create original ceramic pieces. This ceramics-focused day offers expanded opportunities for clay work within our established Art Explorers program, while still providing group and individual instruction. All supplies included.
